Alright, denizens of Conquest 9 -- I'm back with some thoughts on the game. I of course don't know everything about the goings on, but I'm going off the confessionals and other miscellaneous information from the VL skype chat. At any rate, we'll see how incredulous I can make people.
Let's start with Yurbaco, who's attending tribal tonight.
It sounds like Mike's head is prepped for the guillotine. Mike has apparently won multiple games, and I can see why just from his few confessionals -- he's clearly outgoing and intelligent. If Mike goes I think it just comes down to the rest of his tribe really hitting the ground running from night one, and Mike being less active in those early days.
Also, from what I've gathered, I just don't think Mike necessarily fits in with the vibe of this orange group -- which generally consists of low-key type people, who enjoy playing Slither.io until 2am. I believe Sam said something in his confessional this round to the effect of: 'Mike is really into going out and partying, but most of the people on this tribe aren't really like that.' This is, in part, where I'm seeing a bit of a disconnect.
Although I don't love Aren's 26 confessional posts per day, I have been a fan of his gameplay -- sit back and let people see him as their little brother. It doesn't seem like his talkativeness or high-energy personality is bothering anyone, which is good. And I'm impressed by Aren surrounding himself with bigger threats, or just more-visible players, like Sam and Lizzie (and I guess even Steffen?). Unless Aren gets over-eager and tries to make some crazy moves, I think he's poised for a deep run.
Lizzie ending up at exile this round seems kind of ideal for her. She doesn't have to show her cards yet, and can remain close to essentially everyone -- perhaps she can avoid showing her cards until the swap. I worry about Lizzie's long-term game, and I think she herself might say the same at this point...but if Lizzie can keep Sam as a shield, and also create this exile alliance with Jenn and Nick, then I think Lizzie could have a very real shot to go all the way. (Once again, I apologize for the permanent scarring I've left on Lizzie's game; and I apologize to the poor soul -- probably Nick #2 -- who will suffer from this in Conquest 9.)
Tierra's confessionals from this round really impressed me. Her perception of things is fairly accurate, and she realizes where she stands on this tribe -- towards the bottom, but not in any immediate danger. She knows she can't trust her friend Sam; and, Tierra recognizes that if she rocks the boat and tries too hard to save Mike or Donald (this round or next), then it could cost her. I think if she makes it through this early part of the game, Tierra could be a very influential player down the line...someone who could upend a majority. (Low-key, for my own enjoyment, I do hope she fights wicked hard to keep Donald in the game.)
I wish I could mention everyone on this tribe in more detail, because individually they've all got something interesting going on, but I'll end with Steffen and Donald -- the two people who have been to exile from this tribe. Both have clearly made mistakes (specifically as it pertains to their exile trips): Steffen perhaps should have just lied about the idol, or at least been a bit less messy with who he told; and Donald needs to not spill 'so much FUCKING tea,' as he might say.
Despite all of this, I've enjoyed both these guys as characters. I'm totally willing to watch 10+ minute confessionals from either, because they are fascinating narrators, even if their perception of things is not always on point.
I sincerely hope that all 8 of the Yurbacos that remain after this round can get to the swap...
Transitioning over to Carex. It's pretty clear to me that Nick and Jenn's narrative is stealing the show. It's unbelievable, really, that they are both about to make it to the swap after another round and that they both possess idols going into f14. I think I mentioned this in my thoughts during the first round, but this is precisely why you don't alienate people on the very first vote. Three days in no one is going to want to go against the majority (i.e., voting Ben). The result -- and yes, Michael's leaked confessional is a factor here -- is that Nick and Jenn are working their asses off to survive and get the fuck out of this tribe, and they've benefitted immensely from the twist and birthed twins named idol 1 and idol 2.
I know it's an unpopular opinion, but I wasn't a big Jenn fan over the first two rounds. She came across as a bit whiney (omg, sorry Jenn I know that's so mean to say...it's really just a lack of a better word...please don't murder me) in her confessionals when things weren't going her way -- complaining about being on this tribe and being targeted for her connections in the game...BUT, I've come around on Jenn and I'm totally here for someone who's willing to work hard to get out of her current situation, put on a happy face with people, make new bonds, and go into her confessional and still say 'fuck those people who put me in this spot.'
Nick #2 figuring out how to stay and make sure Elise went last round was a subtle yet great move. If he can just keep relying on his social game, and stay perceptive on the dynamics, I think he will go a long ways. Linking up with Lizzie and Teddy for Yurbaco would be great for his game as well.
Jeff is someone I could very well see being in trouble very soon. I think he's in a similar role to Sam on Yurbaco -- trying to have his fingerprints on everything going on strategically on his tribe. Much like Sam, people seem sketched out by Jeff; though unlike Sam, I'm not sure if Jeff has enough steady allies to stay safe...perhaps a factor of playing too hard too soon?
Austin is apparently wanting Jeff out at this point...which I think is good for Austin's game. Austin sees that Nick and Jenn are more solid people to align with, and I do hope he can gain their trust. Austin's gameplay has been one of the more fun to watch so far. Austin's one of the few people that I feel confident will somehow, someway just figure it out from round to round. His various connections in the game could come back to haunt him, though I hope not for the sake of an exciting rest of the season.
All for now. Bye.
